Ernst Bachrich

1892 Wien -1942 Majdanek
Dr. Ernst Bachrich, born May 30, 1892 in Vienna, pianist, conductor, composer. Besides law studies at the Vienna University he studied piano, music theory, conducting with Karl Prohaska and Carl Lafite, 1916-1917 with Arnold Schönberg, and 1918-1919 assisted Schoenberg's composition seminar. 1918-20 he hold the position of 'Vorbereiter' (preparator) and pianist in Schönberg's 'Verein für musikalische Privataufführungen', 1919 as Secretary; 1920-25 he worked as répétiteur and conductor at the Volksoper Vienna, 1928 as conductor at the Stadttheater Düsseldorf, 1931 at the Stadtheater Duisburg. 1922-23 he was guest conductor of the orchestra of the Jewish sports' club Hakoah, Vienna, and lecturer at Vienna adult education institutions, as well as director of the International Piano Seminar; 1936 together with Marcel Rubin and Friedrich Wildgans in charge of the concert series 'Music of Our Time' in Vienna. During 1913 - 1937 70 performances at the Wiener Konzerthaus. Compositions: Lieder, Chamber Music, Orchestral Works. May 15, 1942 Ernst Bachrich was deported from Vienna to Izbica; on July 11, 1942 he was murdered at the extermination camp Majdanek. Update Primavera Driessen Gruber March 24, 2014
